Portfolio SEO 101: Getting Found on Google

Team Showcaseme·12 August 2026·7 min read

Most people building a portfolio never think about SEO — and for a lot of use cases, you don't need to; you'll just share the link directly. But if you want your portfolio to also be findable when someone searches your name, or searches for what you do plus your city, a few basics go a long way.

1. Use your real name and role clearly

Search engines (and people) need to quickly understand who you are and what you do. Put your name and a clear, specific title in your bio — "Frontend Developer" beats "Creative Problem Solver" for search purposes, even if the second one sounds more interesting.

2. Write real descriptions, not just labels

A project titled "E-commerce App" with no description gives search engines (and readers) almost nothing to work with. A sentence or two on what it does and what you built adds real, indexable content, not just a title.

3. Get indexed at all

A page can't rank if it isn't indexed. Every Showcaseme portfolio is publicly accessible by default on its own subdomain, which means search engines can crawl and index it like any other public page — you don't need to configure anything for basic indexing to work. You can control visibility preferences from your dashboard if you'd rather keep a draft private while you work on it.

4. Custom domains help credibility and search alike

A custom domain (available on Pro) reads as more established than a subdomain, both to a human visitor and, over time, to search engines building trust signals around a domain you actually own.

5. Link to your portfolio from places that already rank

LinkedIn, GitHub, and your resume already have their own authority. Linking your portfolio from all of them (and linking back where relevant) does more for discoverability than almost any on-page tweak. This is the single highest-leverage thing most people skip.

None of this requires technical SEO knowledge — it's mostly about writing real content and linking your portfolio from the places people already find you. If you haven't built one yet, start here.
